Is Credit Repair Legal?

Yes it is. You must make sure that the company you are working with is fully registered with the secretary of state for legal credit repair, contracts in full compliances with their states attorney general and bonded. Nationwide Credit is all the above.

Why does credit repair carry a negative connotation?

It is too bad that there are some bad credit repair companies out there that just want to take your money and do no work. Make sure that they are fully registered with the Secretary of State, contracts in full compliances with their state’s Attorney General and bonded.

Are there laws regulating the credit repair industry?

Yes there are and that is why we practice legal credit repair. The most prominent one is the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), at Nationwide Credit we are big fans of this law. Beware of deceptive advertising practices by credit repair organizations. If a credit report agency makes you all kinds of promises telling you that they can delete all your negative information off your credit report they are not fowling the CROA laws. Nationwide Credit will provide all its clients with a copy of their signed contract. The CROA states that you must receive a copy of your contract.

How can I avoid becoming a victim of credit repair scams?

Avoid any company that suggests creating a “new” credit identity – and then, a new credit report – by applying for an Employer Identification Number to use instead of your Social Security number. This process is known as file segregation, and it is against the law. Stay away from these companies. They will take your money for something that does not work.
